Jane was reading her book in the The Courtyard quietly as she secretly watched the other people converse and have fun, both things she was not very good at. Jane was good at facts and learning and keeping up with her favorite Fandoms but not talking, she was socially awkward and didn't like it, so she saw a guy and decided to make a new friend. Boldly she stood up and kept her best smile on and walked over to him. "I'm Jane Porter, and you are?" She asked politely introducing herself with a smile that made her blue eyes sparkle.

Hiccup had just taken off his riding helmet, his shaggy hair in his face as he watched the other students play in the courtyard. He was the camp counselor and flying instructor, allowing him to be connected with the students. He, too, was a very awkward boy. He was good with helping other people, allowing him access to friends and conversation. He had matured a lot more, giving him the strength to talk and be more outgoing. he heard the voice of another person and looked at her, his brown eyes becoming bright. "Oh, hey! I'm... I'm Hiccup Haddock. Nice to meet you." He gave a warm smile, welcoming her. "I don't think I've seen you around here..."

Jane smiled warmly as she held her book to her small frame, she was interested in meeting this boy and was excited to finally make a new friend. Jane could see he was awkward as well but he still was always around people, helping people with their problems, she also loved helping people and wanted to make a difference but she didn't know how. Jane was definitely more mature than others, you could see it in the way she walked and talked, she was graceful and smart and used words most people didn't understand, she had bright conversations and just was different than most but she treasured it. Jane tilted her head still smiling as her chestnut strands fell over her face her blue eyes bright with wisdom and curiosity, she liked this boy he seemed more warm and caring than most and he seemed outgoing which she found fascinating. "Nice to meet you hiccup." Jane chuckled slightly, she had never heard a name so... Peculiar. "I'm sorry your name is just so fascinating and well unlike any I've heard, it's norse right? Nordic cultures usually named their children strange names to ward off evil." Jane said showing her knowledge. "Well I don't really converse much, I like to stick to my books." Jane explained holding up her copy of her favorite book. "I'm usually reading something or learning something new, rather than making friends." Jane blushed slightly embarrassed.

Hiccup laughed and shook his head in a bit of disbelief, looking at the girl with a grin. His voice was playful as he spoke,"You seem very very open, Jane," he leaned on his amputated leg, looking up at the sky. He closed his eyes and let the sun pour down on him. "Yeah, it's norse. My father, he was... He was very, um, vikingish.

Jane blushed deeper, she probably shouldn't have said that, she probably offended him she was always spouting her knowledge in places it wasnt needed. "I'm sorry, I just don't know when to shut my mouth I guess." Jane stumbled, chuckling a bit as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "I am very open, I've always said my thoughts even when it was unnecessary or uneeded, being blessed with unlimited knowledge kinda makes it hard not to speak up." Jane explained, "and if you hadn't guessed I'm a descendant of Athena." Jane laughed as he explained his names origins, he was viking and it seemed as though his father was one of those tough vikings she'd read about. "Well that explains it, your father is stoick right?" Jane asked, she'd heard about the chief and the town of burk. "I'm sorry if I seem a bit like a know it all, I don't try to be I just know a lot." Jane chuckled. "Why don't you tell me about yourself?" Jane asked wanting to know more about him, her thirst for knowledge growing, she knew he was going to ask about her, but she wasn't that extraordinary. "And then maybe I will tell you about myself, warning: My story isn't that interesting." Jane laughed with a bit of an unladylike snort.

"My father is actually Sancus," he said softly,"by birth, I mean. He couldn't raise me, so he dropped me off with Stoick. I don't know my real dad, but Stoick... He was probably the closest thing. He raised me and loved me," he sounded sadder now. "He protected me from what the mist couldn't hide." Hiccup looked at her with a smile. "I'm from Berk, and it wasn't really interesting until we all got a few dragons. My mom... She's never really been around. I came here when I was sixteen, and now I'm twenty."

"Stoick sounds like a good man, a little rough on the outside but a big heart on the inside." Jane smiled warmly. "I can tell you've inherited that." Jane said hoping he took it as a compliment, she could tell he was kind and caring. "Dragons! Oh my gosh that sounds amazing!" Jane said in awe, "I've always wanted to ride on a dragon, and feel the wind in my hair and feel free." Jane explained dreaming of flying and doing amazing things thats she's only read about in books. "Well I was raised by a scientist, obviously mom wasn't around seeing as she was a goddess and such, I used to go on amazing adventures with my dad, but then he died and I used my books as a comfort and I came here when I was 15 and now I'm 18." Jane told her story quickly, she doesn't like her backstory, it brings unwanted pain back.

Hiccup listened to her, his eyes becoming clouded with concern. He turned to stand in front of her face to face. "I swear to you, Jane, that i won't tell anyone about your backstory. But you seem.. You seem very hurt by it. Do you need any of my help?"

Jane was taken aback as he stood in front of her, she had never had anyone seem so concerned about her and she had to say it was something she was not used to and she didn't like people feeling sorry for her, everyone dies at some point and she knew her father was old and sick so it's not like she didn't understand it, like anything she accepted it and tried very hard to move on. "No truly I'm fine... I just miss him but I promise you I'm fine." Jane stumbled "It just brings back memories I don't like whenever I talk about it." Jane sighed looking away trying to keep composed and calm, but stumbling over her words and trying not to cry.

Hiccup looked at her with a very gentle expression, smiling weakly. He knew exactly how she felt, and he could relate to her in a strong way. "You know... I'm always here if you need to talk. Come find me any time. I'm always free."
